Virginia Medicaid Changes in 2018
On August 1, 2018, the Medicaid program offered by Virginia Medicaid began changing. Under the new program, you maintain the benefits you have now and gain access to additional benefits and services.
You may be assigned to the same health plan you have now, or you may be assigned to a new health plan with a different plan provider.
You have the right to choose Optima Family Care as your Medicaid health plan.
When to expect changes
The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is rolling out the new program region by region, across the state, between August 1st and through December 1st of this year.

What you can do
When you receive your assignment letter from DMAS, you may not be assigned to Optima Family Care. You have the right to choose your Medicaid plan from one of the six participating plan providers within 90 days of being assigned.
Medicaid Expansion is coming to Virginia in January 2019. More information will be available soon.
