Getting Started with a Healthy Eating Plan
A healthy eating plan is the foundation for achieving your ideal weight and wellness goals.
Eating the right amount of calories is important to reaching or maintaining your healthy body weight.
Here are some tips to remember when planning your meals:
Avoid oversized portions and use a smaller plate, bowl and glass to enjoy your food and eat less.
Choose from a variety of foods and beverages that are packed with nutrients, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, seafood, eggs, beans and peas, unsalted nuts and seeds, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, and lean meats and poultry.
Fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables that are fresh, frozen or canned in 100% juice, or are low in sodium.
Choose whole grains like oatmeal, popcorn, whole-grain bread, and brown rice.
Mix up your protein foods and to include seafood at least twice a week. Choose from beans and peas, unsalted nuts and seeds, soy products, eggs, and lean meats and poultry.
