Optima Health along with our parent company, Sentara Healthcare, has received several awards and accreditations for our products, wellness programs, and company performance.
These awards recognize our commitment to providing innovations and services to improve health every day.
Optima Medicare plans received a 4.0 out of 5-star rating by CMS for 2018.
Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. Star ratings are calculated each year and may change from one year to the next.
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Accreditation is the nation’s most trusted independent source for driving health care improvement that results in bottom-line value for health care purchasers.1
Optima Health is pleased that NCQA has recognized our quest for excellence. For 19 and 20 years, respectively, Optima Health Plan has received NCQA accreditation for its Medicaid HMO product and commercial HMO/POS health plans. In 2013, Optima Health Plan received NCQA accreditation for its Marketplace HMO health plans.2 Out of 17 commercial health plans in Virginia, Optima Health Plan rated among the top three in the NCQA Private Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2016-2017, with an overall rating of 4 out of 5.3
B+ Rating from Weiss Ratings
Optima Health has received a B+ rating for financial soundness from Weiss Ratings, Inc., the nation’s leading provider of ratings.
This rating recognizes Optima Health as a “Weiss Recommended” insurer offering outstanding financial stability for its customers, vendors, and employees. The Weiss Recommended List of health insurance companies represents the top 11.4% of the industry.4
American Heart Association Workplace Health Achievement
In 2017, the parent company of Optima Health, Sentara Healthcare, was recognized with the American Heart Association "Workplace Health Achievement" Gold-level award, recognizing employers that champion employees' health and create a culture of physical activity. Before the award was phased out, Sentara Healthcare was recognized with the "Fit-Friendly Company" Platinum-level award, from 2009 to 2015.5
American Diabetes Association Health Champion Award
In 2016, 2017 and 2018, the parent company of Optima Health, Sentara Healthcare, was named a "Health Champion" by the American Diabetes Association, as part of their Wellness Lives Here initiative. The Health Champion Designation recognizes companies that make health and wellness a priority for their employees. Sentara Healthcare met the American Diabetes Association designations in healthy living criteria for Nutrition and Weight Management, Physical Activity, and Organizational Well-Being, including promoting healthy food choices, facilitating physical activity and implementing a system-wide tobacco-free policy.
American Cancer Society Excellence In Workplace Tobacco Control Award
The parent company of Optima Health, Sentara Healthcare, was awarded Excellence in Workplace Tobacco Control from the American Cancer Society from 2010 until 2016, when the award was discontinued. This award recognizes employers for outstanding contributions to the global fight against cancer.6
C. Everett Koop National Health Awards
The Health Project commends programs with demonstrated effectiveness in influencing personal health habits and the cost effective use of health care services.
The parent company of Optima Health, Sentara Healthcare, was recognized by The Health Project for its Mission: Health program and awarded honorable mention in the 2011 C. Everett Koop National Health Award Winners.7
National Health Information Awards
The National Health Information Awards program, organized by the Health Information Resource Center, honors high-quality consumer health information.8
Eating for Life, an Optima Health MyLife MyPlan program, received the 2013 National Health Information Award at the Bronze level in the Total Health Information Program, Hospital and Health Care Systems.9
Virginia Center for Health Innovation Game-Changer Award in Employee Health
The parent company of Optima Health, Sentara Healthcare, was awarded the first-ever Virginia Center for Health Innovation 2014 Game-Changer Award in Employee Health and was named a finalist in 2015 and 2016, recognizing organizations that have implemented outstanding employee health strategies in Virginia.10
