Agency ranks financial security of health plans for consumers
Virginia Beach, VA – August 15, 2005 – Optima Health Plan joins an elite group of 12 health plans in the nation to earn an A+ rating from the prestigious Weiss ratings agency.
Data from the 4th quarter of 2004 resulted in the only A+ rating among health plans in Virginia.
“I could not be more proud of our people at Optima,” said Optima President Michael M. Dudley. “The financial strength of our company, and our commitment to outstanding service and health improvement make us an excellent choice for any health care consumer.”
The Weiss agency considers seven fiscal factors in ranking a health plan, including the plan’s level of capitalization, its reserves and the company’s ability to accurately anticipate the level of claims it will receive, its investment strategy, its profitability, and its liquidity and company stability. Optima ranked well enough in all categories to earn the coveted A+ from Weiss.
“This rating means our members can count on us for coverage,” Michael Dudley adds. “We are committed to serving our members’ needs and to helping them stay healthy through innovative disease management and health education programs.” Optima also operates its own in-house pharmacy management program, assuring a formulary of the safest, most effective medications at the lowest overall cost.
And, Optima Health is growing, having recently established a sales office in Richmond, Virginia and launching its new Medicare PPO product in 60 Virginia localities, Optima Medicare Preferred.
