Healthy Heart Program

In just four weeks, you can learn life-long strategies for strengthening your heart. This education, exercise and stress management program covers topics such as:

  • Eating healthy
  • Developing good exercise habits
  • Coping with stress 
  • Modifying smoking habits

Eating For Life

The best part about this program is you complete it at your pace. Using a workbook and DVD, learn the facts about fat, fiber, sodium and sugar. Also get the skinny on the right amounts and types of food.

Tobacco Cessation Program

Yes you can quit—for life. It’s a big decision you won’t regret and we support your needs. "Get Off Your Butt: Stay Smokeless for Life" program offers help for first-time quitters and those who have tried to quit before. This tobacco cessation program is designed to help you:

  • Identify your readiness to change.
  • Explore the nature of nicotine habit, dependency and addiction.
  • Gain on-going support and encouragement to help you stick to your commitment to quit.

Other Preventive Services

Sentara’s Community Health and Prevention Department is available to provide classes, conduct health screenings, or administer flu shots on site for businesses and organizations with Optima Health plan members. Employer groups who have at least 20 employees interested in information or classes on topics noted below should contact us for more information. Programs include:

  • Women’s issues including pregnancy, menopause, osteoporosis, and estrogen replacement therapy.
  • Childhood and adult immunizations (classes and print pieces available).
  • Mobile mammography.
  • Asthma and diabetes management programs.
  • Health improvement and disease prevention written material, suitable for employee newsletters.
  • Cancer: skin, colorectal, prostate, breast.
  • Flu shots.
  • Tobacco cessation classes.
  • Health screening events to measure height and weight, calculate body mass index, identify percentage of body fat, and measure cholesterol and blood pressure. 
  • Employee health improvement program to identify personal health risks and provide information and support to reduce health risks.
