Sentara Diabetes Education Classes

 

There are two American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognized Diabetes Self-Management Training courses offered at Sentara Healthcare.

“Healthy Living with Diabetes” 

This 9-hour program is team-taught by Certified Diabetes Educators (nurses and dietitians) at Sentara Bayside Hospital, Sentara CarePlex, Sentara Leigh Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

A physician referral and registration are required.

“Diabetes and You”

A multidisciplinary team of health professionals at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital teach this 9-hour program. Follow up for patients is available through a monthly “Aftercare” program and telephone contact.

Courses are taught during both day and evening hours for patient convenience. Individual counseling is available at all facilities, except Sentara Norfolk General. There is a charge for these programs. Most healthcare plans cover diabetes education. Please call your health insurance provider to check your benefits.

 

Sentara Obici Hospital offers a 9-hour Diabetes Education Program that requires a physician referral and is currently supported by the Foundation for Community Health. Please call 757-934-4879 to enroll.
