What is the Healthy Heart Program?

The Healthy Heart Program is a four-week education and exercise program which teaches you how to eat healthy, develop appropriate exercise habits, cope with stress, and modify smoking habits.

Who should attend the Healthy Heart Program?

People who have heart disease or those at risk to develop heart disease will benefit from this program. We encourage partners or significant others to attend to provide on-going support and understanding.

What are the goals of the program?

The first goal of the Healthy Heart Program is to help you make changes that will decrease your risk of heart disease by learning about your nutritional and lifestyle habits. The second goal is to provide support, networking, and encouragement in making these important lifestyle changes.

What are the benefits of the program?

The benefits of the program include increased energy, decreased cardiac risk factors, and a greater sense of peace and well-being.

What are the classes like?

The classes include lessons about healthy eating, moderate stretching, flexibility and toning exercises, coping skills development and strategies to eliminate smoking. When you join the Healthy Heart Program, specific clinical information will be obtained to monitor your progress.

When are the classes held?

Group classes are offered throughout the year at different locations to make it easier for you to participate.

How much will the class cost?

The classes are free to all Optima Health members*. The fee to all other participants is $50.

What if I cannot attend a class?

A self-paced program, Healthy Heart Express, is available for those unable to attend a class.  This program includes a guide for a healthy heart, a healthy heart yoga booklet and guided meditation CD.  Call 1-800-SENTARA  to request this program to be sent to your home.
