"Eating for Life" is a DVD and workbook program for adults to learn about healthy eating and exercise.
All Optima Health members* may request their personal copy of the "Eating for Life" DVD and workbook program. The program is free to all Optima Health members. Call the Eating for Life hotline at 757-552-8940, or 1-800-736-8272 to receive a personal copy of the "Eating for Life" DVD and workbook program.
This program is based on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA MyPyramid food guidance system. Dietary and activity goals are created on MyPyramid.gov and participants track their progress online.
Topics of the DVD chapters include: evaluating calories and nutrients needs; weight management; physical activity; dietary fat, sodium and carbohydrates; reading food labels and more. This unique, self-paced program developed by Sentara Healthcare dietitian, Joan Sechrist, Ph.D., R.D. allows participants to develop healthy habits on their own schedule.
The "Eating for Life" program was awarded a 2008 National Health Information Award, an annual award that recognizes the nation's best health information programs and materials.
