Scheduled to Open in Mid-2006
Construction begins on one of the area’s most comprehensive and futuristic health complexes—Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus—where few health services currently exist in southern Virginia Beach. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 27.
“Virginia Beach families in this area deserve the full complement of health care services," says Stephen D. Porter, Vice President, Sentara Princess Anne Health Campus. “With so much of the city’s population expected to be within a five-mile radius in the next few years, health needs in this area will only increase.”
Two, 70,000 s.f. buildings—Sentara HealthPlex I and II—mark the launch of this comprehensive health campus. When complete, the campus will offer southern Virginia Beach families access to the expertise of more than 40 physician specialties.
First to the campus will be primary and specialty physician offices, a comprehensive cancer center, outpatient imaging and laboratory services, physical therapy, sports medicine services, and women’s services.
Later to emerge will be a family wellness and recreation center through Sentara’s partnership with the YMCA to enhance the area’s strong families, an outpatient surgery center, life-saving emergency services, Sentara Heart Center, and ultimately, a hospital.
To help the city minimize the impact to area recreation, Sentara begins construction only after voluntarily delaying the project a full two years, allowing the city time to ready its world-class sports complex.
