NCQA "Excellent" Accreditation for 2005

The Standard of Excellence Continues!

For the seventh year in a row, health plans administered by Sentara Health Plans, Inc. have received an “Excellent” accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA):

 Optima Health Plan  (HMO products)

In fact, Optima Health Plan is Virginia’s only commercial HMO to maintain NCQA’s highest accreditation status since 1998.

In addition to the “Excellent” accreditation for the commercial health plans, this is the sixth year in a row that the Medicaid HMO product, Optima Family Care, has received an excellent rating from the NCQA.

According to Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA President, “NCQA’s ‘Excellent’ Accreditation status is reserved for the best health plans in the nation. It is only awarded to those plans that meet or exceed NCQA’s rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement and deliver excellent clinical care.”

NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans, managed behavioral health organizations, physician organization, and credential certification organizations. Its mission is to provide information that enables purchasers and consumers of managed health care to distinguish among plans based on quality, thereby allowing them to make more informed decisions.
