Construction Begins on Sentara Princess Anne Hospital

Virginia Beach, VA – June 16, 2008 – Construction of the new Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is underway. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 12. The new hospital is anticipated to open in 2010.

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital will be a 5-story, 120-bed acute care hospital to be located on the Sentara Princess Anne health campus at 2000 Glenn Mitchell Drive. This state-of-the-art hospital represents the culmination of more than 20 years of planning, and an investment of approximately $145 million, to bring a hospital to southern Virginia Beach communities.

When its doors open, this 330,400 square-foot hospital will complement the convenient outpatient services already being provided at Sentara Princess Anne. Currently licensed for 120 beds, this hospital will offer comprehensive surgical procedures, intensive care, advanced cardiac care, and a dedicated family maternity center, fulfilling the vision for the campus.

“About 20 years ago Sentara recognized that growth and plans for southern Virginia Beach would demand health services and ultimately a full service hospital to serve area residents,” says Stephen D. Porter, vice president of Sentara Princess Anne. “We are committed to opening this hospital as quickly as possible to meet that need.”

Sentara began creating one of the area’s most comprehensive health care destinations when it broke ground on the 72-acre outpatient campus in April 2005. Today, Sentara Princess Anne health campus is bustling with thousands of patients each year seeking everything from emergency care to outpatient surgery.
